Changes For 2019 | Closing Childcare + Membership Improvements
2018 has been a very exciting (albeit challenging!) year at The Hatchery. Our community is always at the forefront of our work here at The Hatchery and, with that in mind, we feel it’s time to be honest about some of the challenges we’ve faced and changes that we’ll be implementing in the new year.
When we look at our vision, our mission, and our why - we feel like we’re doing a damn good job. When we look at the nuts and bolts of our operations – well, those are not as great as we need them to be.
In order for our space to remain sustainable, we have to look at what we can do to help keep The Hatchery thriving where it counts: with our community. In order to do that, we need to make some major changes to reduce our overhead and improve our space and membership offerings. These changes and challenges have not come to us overnight - we have worked endlessly to find solutions through market research, business coaches, bankers, you all, and so many more.
Moving into 2019, these three major changes will take effect:
On-Site Childcare Will Be Closing on 2/1/2019
This feature has been at the foundation of our business since day 1. We wanted to offer a space for parents to come and be the best business owners they can be, while their kiddo was being taken care of in the other room. In theory, this seems like the perfect solution. Logistically, we’ve learned that it’s not. Over time we’ve learned that the overall cost to run childcare does not correlate with the potential for its earnings and, unfortunately, we can no longer accommodate childcare in our space as of 2/1/2019. The members that utilize our childcare have been contacted directly and we are working with them to make this transition as seamless as possible.
Membership Pricing + Increased Access
Onto news we are excited to share! We’ve thoughtfully considered the feedback we’ve received over the year and have been strategizing with an owner of multiple successful coworking spaces. We’ve realized that it’s time to make memberships at The Hatchery much more simple and streamlined. We don’t want you to second guess whether you have enough days to come in - we want working on your dreams to be a complete no-brainer.
With that in mind, our new membership offerings are:
Day Pass: $20/day for open coworking space
Flex Desk: $99/mo/person for unlimited coworking with 2 hours of conference room hours/mo
Dedicated Desk: $199/mo/person with 6 conference room hours/mo
Private Offices: we will have two private offices available as of 1/1/2019. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information
That’s it! No math, no tracking, it’s truly your space to conquer all the things. On the days where we have a full house, the energy level is high and we feel unstoppable in what we can offer to each and every member. Our hope is that this new membership offering will allow you more time to come in and conquer your goals! New membership levels are available right here.
Our New Space!
We will be adding a second location as of 2/1/2019! The Hatchery Downtown will be located inside Pressed - 803 East Walnut
We want to share with you how this new location came to be! The bar + event space is beautiful, modern, and comes with one of the best views in town. However, due to the nature of it being, well, a bar + event space it is only open between 4PM-1AM. The owner of the space was brainstorming a way to fill this gorgeous location during the day and, luckily, we came to his mind!
This partnership comes with little risk or change for us except that Raigan may not be here as much in the mornings in order to staff our new location. We are extremely excited to offer our community another location that may be closer to their home or to give them a chance to enjoy working outside on a patio! Same branding, same business, and same community goals, but in the heart of Columbia and with an incredible view.
There will be an option to have a membership to The Hatchery South, The Hatchery Downtown, or a combined membership to both. We are not 100% finalized on pricing, but we do know that the pricing for a downtown-specific membership will be a flat rate that includes access M-F, 7:30AM-4:00PM. Another nice perk of this space is that you are welcome to stay past 4:00PM to enjoy Pressed and their delicious drinks!

We know that these changes are what is best for our community and we are so grateful that you all continue to support us. Each and every one of you genuinely makes our space more vibrant each day.
